A TWEED HEADS man faced Southport Magistrates Court today after he allegedly carjacked a woman and forced her to drive at knife point from Robina Town Centre.

Queensland police allege that on Tuesday at around 10am a woman was returning to her vehicle parked at the shopping centre when a man jumped into the passenger side of her vehicle.

The 30-year-old man allegedly produced a knife and demanded he be driven to Southport.

The woman drove her vehicle along the Pacific Motorway and instead of driving to Southport, crashed her car into a barrier out the front of the Mudgeeraba Police Station.

She ran into the police station, when it is alleged the man fled the vehicle on foot.

He was arrested in dramatic scenes a short time later with the help of the police helicopter unit, nearby on Meteor Court, Mudgeeraba.

The 22-year-old Carrara woman was not physically injured during the incident.

Police have charged the man with one count each of deprivation of liberty, enter a premises with intent to commit indictable offence, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, attempted armed robbery and obstruct police.

Anyone with information which could assist with this matter should contact Crime Stoppers anonymously via 1800 333 000 or crimestoppers.com.au 24hrs a day.
