Turf cricket in Coffs is off this afternoon

MORE than an inch and a quarter of rain in the space of 60 hours has forced the Coffs Harbour District Cricket Association to cancel play in some of their matches this afternoon.

The wet conditions have meant that there wasn’t enough time available to properly prepare turf wickets despite the blue skies that prevailed for most of Friday afternoon.

This has meant that all first grade fixtures will not be played this afternoon as well as two second grade clashes and the third grade encounter that was to be played at Richardson Park’s No.2 ground.

These matches will be played as one-day affairs next Saturday.

All matches that have been fixtured to play on grounds that have hard, synthetic wickets this afternoon were still going ahead at the time of printing.

In a tight first grade competition where every team can still make the final four with only one round remaining, the fortunes of each club will now come down to one dramatic final day where the top three teams, Diggers Ex-Services, Dorrigo and Park Beach Bowling Club (PBBC) Colts, will play against the bottom three teams in Sawtell, Nana Glen and Coffs Tigers.

Batsman Rob Quiney has been included in Victoria’s squad for tomorrow’s one-day cricket final against Tasmania at the MCG after overcoming an adductor strain.

Quiney’s availability is a major boost for the Bushrangers, who are without key players Cameron White, David Hussey, Dirk Nannes and Clint McKay because of national call-ups.
