True-blue Australia Day celebration at the beach

THERE will be a community Australia Day celebration at the Jetty Foreshore on Monday from 11am.

Annette Mavin decided to organise the community event because 'Council wasn't doing anything for the wider community'.

With her hospitality background and market contacts, Mrs Mavin has organised a fun-filled family day. There will be food stalls, entertainment, market stalls, thong throwing, beach cricket, a pie-eating contest, sack races, sumo wrestling, jumping castle and face painting.

There will also be a competition for the best dressed Aussie.

Sumo wrestling will be used as a way to incorporate Coffs Harbour's sister city, Sasebo, in Japan.

Local businesses are coming on board with support from Birch Carroll and Coyle, and the Bendigo Bank. If you would like to offer your support, please contact Mrs Mavin on 6651 6658.

The day begins at 11am and goes until 8pm with the whole community invited to attend. Entry is free.
