UPDATE: A Western Downs town is rallying behind the family of a truck driver who died in an early morning truck crash west of Toowoomba today.

Tara truck driver John Johnson died despite frantic efforts of Queensland Ambulance paramedics at the scene of a truck crash on the eastern outskirts of Roma about 6.15am.

Mr Johnson, 60, died at Roma Hospital after the truck he was driving, headed west toward Injune, crashed into a parked semi-trailer on Bowen St.

Initial information suggested Mr Johnson had pulled out onto the road and turned west in his truck before possibly suffering a medical episode.

Mr Johnson had been driving a Chinchilla Transport semi-trailer.

Mr Johnson's family is believed to have travelled to Roma from Tara this morning.

The occupants of the parked truck is believed to have escaped without injury.

Bowen St was closed for hours as Forensic Crash Unit investigators examined the scene.

9.20AM: Police have identified the truck driver killed in a collision west of Toowoomba this morning as a Western Downs local.

The 60-year-old man from the Western Downs town of Tara died in Roma Hospital after the truck he was driving crashed into a parked truck on Bowen St about 6.10am.

Bowen St remains closed as forensic investigations get under way.

8.45AM: Police are investigating whether the driver of a truck suffered a "medical episode" before his vehicle collided with a parked truck on the Warrego Hwy this morning.

Roma Police Patrol Inspector Rohan Burke said initial investigations suggested the Chinchilla Transport semi-trailer, driven by a man aged in his 50s, had left Roma about 6am today headed west.

"We believe he's suffered a medical episode and as such the vehicle has collided with the parked semi-trailer," Insp. Burke said.

"He was travelling in a westerly direction in his way to Injune."

Roma Scenes of Crime and Forensic Crash Unit investigators remain at the scene.

7.45AM: A man has died after a truck crash on the Warrego Hwy west of Toowoomba this morning.

The man had been driving a semi-trailer truck when it collided with a truck parked off the highway east of Roma about 6.15am.

Paramedics unsuccessfully performed CPR at the scene before the man was transported to Roma Hospital.

Forensic Crash Unit investigators will today work to determine the cause of the crash including whether a medical condition contributed to the fatality.

7.25AM: A man has been rushed to hospital after he was involved in a truck crash on the Warrego Hwy west of Toowoomba.

The crash between a semi-trailer and a parked truck occurred about 6.15am.

The driver of one of the trucks has been taken to Roma Hospital in a serious condition.

Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics had performed CPR on the injured man at the scene of the crash.

6.25AM: Emergency service are at the scene of a serious two-truck crash on the western Darling Downs.

The crash between a semi-trailer and a truck parked on the side of the road occurred east of Roma on the Warrego Hwy.

There are reports of the people involved are seriously hurt.

Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics are performing CPR on the injured driver.

Police, ambulance and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crews are arriving on scene.

Authorities urge motorists travelling in the area to take care.

The Warrego Hwy is blocked at the scene of the crash.
