Truckies: We don't want tolls

THE response to the announcement of the prices for the new Toowoomba Bypass have been mixed.

Tony Straycat said it was "another kick in the guts” for owner-drivers”.

"If you run it four to six times every day on a set rate and can't pass it on, this puts you backwards. Major contract holders charge the customers but don't pass it on to the other subbies. Not forgetting it will increase every year and add on the other tolls enforced on roads that you must use.”

Aaron Mckay said he was sick of the government "take, take, taking”.

"When will they give a little? They take our money and our rights.”

Peter Montgomery pointed out it "required trucks to get the materials to the location to build it” and said now they wanted to charge them to use it.

John Jeffs wondered why everyone was surprised: "It was always slated to be a toll road since 2014.”
