Truckie airlifted after vehicle goes over 30m embankment

THE driver of a cement truck that rolled off Clarence Valley Way between Bonalbo and Urbenville was airlifted to the Lismore Base Hospital with facial and possible spinal injuries and trauma.

Police say the Tenterfield man, 61, failed to negotiate a right hand bend yesterday morning, veering off the road and rolling down a 30m embankment off the Clarence Valley Way near Bean Creek.

The cement truck flipped, crushing the cabin and trapping the driver inside.

RFS and SES rescue units worked to free the man before he was airlifted to hospital by the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter.
