Truck driver ordered off road after drunken crash

A TRUCK driver of 40 years' experience was at a loss to explain how his vehicle ended up on its roof following an accident at Marburg earlier this year.

Ipswich Magistrates Court yesterday heard how David John Bramley ruined an excellent traffic history by drink driving on the evening of July 9.

Bramley swerved several times and crashed, with subsequent blood tests revealing an alcohol concentration of 0.195.

Prosecutor Senior Constable Courtney Boss said police arrived at the scene to see the 57-year-old's car on its roof and Bramley in the back of an ambulance.

A witness told police that Bramley had been driving erratically in the moments before the crash, swerving around several cars on the Warrego Highway before losing control and flipping.

Bramley pleaded guilty to driving while under the influence of liquor and driving without due care and attention.

Defence lawyer Bill Leather said his client could not remember much about the incident, but that his excellent driving history suggested it was out of character.

Bramley was fined $1200 and disqualified from holding a licence for nine months.
