A TRUCK driver has escaped serious injury after his vehicle went up in a huge ball of flames on the Bruce Highway.

The truck's cab caught fire when it came to a stop at Forest Glen at 11.50am and flames quickly took hold. A staff member at a neighbouring business captured the burning truck on her camera.

"I heard that the engine started a fire while the driver was driving so he pulled over and tried to use his extinguisher, but it ran out," onlooker Lilly Mayes said.

A staff member from Rent Me Truck Hire rushed outside to assist but there was little anyone could do but wait for firefighters to arrive.

The truck was well alight when crews arrived. Using foam, the fire was under control within 20 minutes.
