Truck accident at Macksville

A COLLISION between a semi trailer and a four wheel drive only 200 metres north of the Macksville bridge is causing major traffic delays on the Pacific Hwy.

Already queues longer than five kilometres have been reported by Live Traffic NSW.

The semi trailer was travelling south on the Pacific Hwy when a four wheel drive was believed to have moved over to the wrong side of the road and collided with the truck.

The front end of the vehicle was wiped off and the driver of the four wheel drive was temporarily trapped inside the vehicle.

Fire fighters were quickly on the scene and freed the driver before being transported to Coffs Harbour Health Campus.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter started flying to the scene of the accidents when reports of the trapped driver were made but the chopper returned to base once it was established he rescue services weren't required.

The north bound lane is currently open but the south bound lane is currently closed and is expected to be until at least 1.30pm while the area is cleaned and made safe.
