Tropical vibes flow at major Mackay fundraiser
DECKED out head to toe in tropical attire, dozens of partygoers headed to The Dispensary today for the annual Tropical fundraiser.
The event is expected to raise 20k for Variety - The Children's Charity.
Organiser of the event and co-owner of The Dispensary Adrian Connors is part of Mackay's Jet Trek team, taking part in the charity ride this year.
"We ride on jetskis for about 1200km from Coffs Harbour to Sunshine Coast," Mr Connors said.
"Today's Tropical Fundraiser is our launch event for the Jet Treck, but we will also fundraise throughout the experience.
"We ride for about six hours a day and then each night stop into a different community for a fundraising event."
Sitting on a jetski for such a long time is sure to be challenging, but Mr Connors said it put in perspective what young children living with a disability go through every day.
He said he got involved with the charity event last year through some friends.
"They were raising money for the trek and I had always wanted to get involved, so I said let's use our venue as a way to make the fundraiser even bigger," he said.
The Tropical Fundraiser is now in its second year and is expected to continue to grow.
