Triple the trouble on highway

COWPER MP Luke Hartsuyker says he’s worried about a plan to allow B-triple trucks to shift freight on the Pacific Highway.

He said Infrastructure and Transport Minister Anthony Albanese had released a draft national land freight strategy which detailed the case for allowing the larger trucks to use the main highways.

Mr Hartsuyker said he was opposed to the idea of allowing B-triples, which can be up to 38m long, to move freight on the Pacific Highway.

“Given the state of the highway it is beyond belief the Government would consider allowing B-triples to travel the Pacific Highway,” Mr Hartsuyker said.

“The mixture of local traffic and through traffic is a deadly one. It would be irresponsible or even negligent for any government to give the green light to this idea.

“We don’t want B-triples negotiating the Macksville Bridge, we don’t want B-triples travelling through the main street of Coffs Harbour or any other coastal community for that matter.”
