Training centre opens

STUDENTS at Coffs Harbour's Orara High School will gain valuable skills and training to prepare them for the workplace with the opening of a new Trade Training Centre today.

Constructed with the assistance of a $1-million grant from the Federal Government, the Orara High School Trade Training Centre will present opportunities for both students and businesses in the hospitality sector, particularly in cooking and cuisine.

Federal Member for Cowper, Luke Hartsuyker said the Orara High School TTC is an example of the community putting students first.

"There are ongoing skills shortages in many parts of the hospitality industry and this new facility will provide more choice and opportunity for students who wish to pursue a career in the sector," Mr Hartsuyker said.

"I would like to congratulate the entire school community and other individuals who worked together to make this practical Trade Training Centre a reality.

"They researched Coffs Harbour's employment needs, worked out what was best for the young people of the area and devised a plan that makes a tangible difference," he said.

The work has seen a refurbished teaching space turned into a commercial kitchen and a relocated classroom transformed into a staff room.
