Trainer says Euphonic better placed in today's Grafton race

TRAINER Terry McCarthy hopes to turn disappointment into glee with Euphonic at Grafton races today.

McCarthy admits he was disappointed with Euphonic's last start 11th at Doomben on January 18, when the gelding led but compounded in the home straight after being well supported in betting.

At his previous start, the horse scored an emphatic win at Ballina on December 26.

"At Doomben he was a spent force at the turn," McCarthy admitted.

"I was a bit concerned he may have jarred up.

"It was his third run on hard tracks which may have played against him and as it was a very hot day, that may have played against him too.

"He was off the air a bit."

The trainer decided on a quick back-up when the horse worked well and was eating up.

"He's had a couple of swims, worked solidly three-quarter pace and done everything right this week."
