Trainee golfing champs imminent
CORAL Cove Golf Club officials have their fingers crossed for an end to the rain with the tee off for the second annual Queensland PGA Trainee Championship imminent.
The nation's best young golfers will descend on Bundaberg for the prestigious annual competition which begins tomorrow.
The registration list includes Queensland order of merit leader Ben Fletcher of Nudgee Golf Club and last year's runner-up, Ethan Shanahan of New South Wales, who lost narrowly to Paul Hayden in a play-off.
Coral Cove Golf Club professional Russell Kelly said the event was becoming a highlight of the PGA trainee calendar.
"It was a fantastic event last year and we expect to host another good championships this year," he said.
The second annual trainee championships promises to be one to remember with a competitive field of young golfers ready to do battle.
Kelly said Coral Cove groundsmen had drained some sections of the course after intermittent rain over the weekend.
The Queensland PGA Traineeship Championship will be followed by the highly popular Mega Bowl invitational, an amateur event for local competitors held from June 9 to 11.
