Tourists in tears amid emotional whale encounter

"I WANT to take him home,'' an excited tourist exclaims as a whale rolls over right in front of her.

"Can we?,'' another chips in.

"How beautiful are you.''

The magic moment was captured on camera during a whale watching expedition from Tangalooma Island Resort on Moreton Island.

Eco Ranger Tessa said the weather was perfect with great visibility.

"We discovered this very curious sub-adult between flinders reef and Cape Moreton off Moreton Island.

"It did not leave us alone as it stayed with us for 45 minutes. The Eco rangers and boat crew watched from the starboard boarding platform with our feet literally dangling inches away from the curious whale.

"It was looking into the guests' eyes and checking us out!

"It moved around all sides of the vessel, within metres of us. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity and our hearts were racing with excitement!

Guests, Eco Rangers and boat crew were all overwhelmed with emotion.

Many had had tears in their eyes.

"It is so rare to be within two metres of such an incredible mammal, in a peaceful environment in the calmer waters of Moreton bay marine park.

"We also saw four other whales during today's whale watch cruise as well as a Hammerhead shark and a manta ray!"
