Plan to take local tourism industry forward

COFFS Harbour City Council and Bellingen Shire Council have identified the need for a strategic tourism plan to guide the sustainable development, management and marketing of tourism for the Coffs Coast over the next five-years.

The plan is being developed by a consultant team comprising Dr Meredith Wray, Sarah Lebski and Bill Fox in consultation with a new council steering committee that has been established to guide the strategic direction of tourism for the Coffs Coast.

An important part of the tourism planning process involves consultation with individuals and stakeholders with an interest in the sustainable development of tourism for Coffs Coast and its towns and villages.

The consultation process will seek to identify and review issues, challenges and opportunities for tourism over the next five years, including opportunities associated with nature-based tourism, arts and culture, hospitality, heritage, festivals and events and more.

A consultation process will occur from Tuesday, October 6 to Thursday October 8 and will involve two-hour workshops.

These workshops are an important part of the strategic tourism planning proces.

They will provide an opportunity for residents to contribute their views on the future of tourism for Coffs Coast in a facilitated forum.

Workshops will also provide a presentation explaining the need and approach to developing the Coffs Coast Strategic Management Plan 2020.
