Tough tasks for Coffs rugby sides

BOTH Coffs Harbour-based rugby clubs are in the south today facing tough assignments.

Coffs Snappers are an even money bet against Port Pirates at Stuart Park but while Southern Cross University coach Dave Nicol has long believed Hastings Valley is beatable, he admits a breakthrough at Oxley Oval will need an exceptional performance by his men.

"I missed the win against Kempsey and will be away again with Country sides today so perhaps it's a good omen," he said.

"To be realistic we would have to have everything go right for us to beat Vikings at this stage of the season.

"It's essential we limit their opportunities and stop them putting points on the board up until the break.

"Then we should be able to see what is possible from that point and do what needs to be done."

Nicol said of every match played this season, the performance of the forward pack would be of extreme importance.

"To be in a winning position, you have to outsmart Hastings as they are the yardstick.

"Our forward power has got us over the line several times this year and who knows what could happen?"
