Top score for Tommy at surf titles
IN HIS final year as a junior, Lennox Head surfer Tommy Boucaut went a long way toward qualifying for the national titles when he blitzed his heat at Park Beach today.
Competing in the Hurley NSW Junior Surfing State Titles, Boucaut dominated his heat of the under-18s section to record a combined heat total of 16.20.
Woonona grom Jacob Hooker also impressed the judges today when he scored 15.95 with his two-wave total.
It was Boucaut though who had spectators talking as he chases a state title.
"This is my last year in this comp, I really want to take this one out and make it to the Australian Titles," Boucat said after scoring an 8.03 with his opening wave.
"My game plan was to start quick and put a bit of pressure on the others and back it up and get some good ones.
"When it's like this, I try and focus on getting the two best waves and get the top scores.
"It wasn't really one of the bombs but it had a really good section on it and I thought I needed a good score to go back into first, it just opened up and I got some good turns and a good combo."
The state titles are being held in Coffs Harbour this week over a seven-day period, giving surfers and organisers the best choice of breaks the Coffs Coast has to offer.
Today's break was one that Boucaut certainly enjoyed.
"The waves are super fun, this bank right here (Park Beach) is really good, even though it's dropped off a little it's super fun and there's some really good rights out there," he said.
