Top cop visits troops

ONE of the highest ranking police officers in NSW will be on the Coffs Coast today.

Deputy Commissioner Dave Owens is on a three-day tour of the northern region to meet the troops and discuss issues of concern.

Mr Owens will visit police stations at Coffs Harbour, Bellingen, Dorrigo, Kempsey and Port Macquarie.

Yesterday he was at Lismore, Nimbin, Kyogle and Yamba and will wrap up his tour tomorrow with a visit to Nelson Bay.

“Northern region has performed very well and recent crime statistics prove that,” Mr Owens said.

“Crime in the region is either down or steady in most categories.

“Northern region’s actual strength of staff is above the authorised strength and the statistics speak volumes, showcasing the great job the troops have done and continue to do.”
