Toowoomba drummer to join world's best
TOOWOOMBA'S Jamie Nuss is taking his musical talents to the world.
The percussionist has been selected to join renowned brass band the Cory Band.
The Cory Band has just been named the world's best after winning the British and European Championships with Mr Nuss ecstatic to be joining in.
"It is a dream come true," Mr Nuss said.
"I applied for a position with the band earlier this year and had to send them videos of me playing.
"To be given a chance to join the Cory Band is incredible and something I am really proud of."
The 25-year-old has been a member of the Toowoomba Municipal Band since 2003 and said he has enjoyed every moment.
"My father Mark has been involved with the municipal band for years and inspired me to get involved," Mr Nuss said.
"I have definitely learnt a lot and I have always enjoyed playing with them."
A long time fan of the Cory Band, the percussionist said he still can't believe he will be playing with his idols.
"I went and saw the Cory Band in Brisbane last year and it was incredible," he said.
"I have been a fan of them for quite some time.
"They are an amazing band to watch as well as listen to."
Mr Nuss and his fiancée Emma Tedford will move to Wales later this year.
"It is incredibly exciting to move overseas," he said.
"Emma has always wanted to live overseas and is looking forward to the opportunity as much as me.
"I always knew I would one day have to make the move to advance my music career but to be able to move into a spot with the Cory Band is a truly wonderful opportunity."
The Toowoomba Municipal Band will hold "Winter Warmers", the Toowoomba Eisteddfod on Saturday July 26. The event will get under way at USQ's Q1 concert hall from 7pm. For more information contact Leanne Fuller on 0407 570 517.
