Toowoomba softballers named in Australia squad

SOFTBALL: Toowoomba will have two players in Australia's under-17 boys squad.

Nicholas Murphy (pictured) and Lincoln Walk have been named in the side that will attend the 2018 International Friendship Series training camp and competition, to be held at Redlands Softball Association in Queensland.

The camp from July 6-8 will be followed by a competition from July 9-13.

Last month, the World Baseball Softball Confederation announced the launch of their new 'Softball World Cup' flagship brand.

As part of this announcement, there was news that the U19 Men's Softball World Cup would launch in 2021, with no Junior Men's World Championship in 2020.

The U19 Men's Softball World Cup will be played every two years thereafter.

Despite the news that there will be no Junior Men's World Championship in 2020, Softball Australia has decided to still name an U17 Boys' Squad for this year as 19 of the 31 players selected will be eligible for the 2021 World Cup.

For those players not eligible in 2021, the Friendship Series is still an important opportunity for them to continue their development.

As the future of the sport, they will be vying for selection in future Aussie Steelers teams.
