Toowoomba softballer steps up to plate for Patriots
SOFTBALL: The next few months will be busy for Lewis Codd.
The Allstars (softball) and Rangers (baseball) player has plenty of games and training ahead as he prepares for January's Australian Men's National Championships.
Named in his first Queensland Patriots open softball squad, Codd said he was looking forward to the experience.
"Being my first time at this level, I'm not sure what to expect but I'm looking forward to it,” Codd said.
"Playing for your state is a dream for every player so I'm pretty excited.”
Codd's selection comes after last weekend's Open Men's State Softball Championships in Rockhampton where Toowoomba finished fifth.
"We (Toowoomba) finished fifth, which was a little disappointing,” Codd, 24, said.
"Everyone gave it their all though - we were just a bit unlucky.
"We lost one of pitchers early which made things pretty hard.
"I was just happy to be able to do my part and contribute to the team - give the younger players in the side something to look up.
"I felt like I gave everything I could to help the team and I'll do the same for Queensland.”
Toowoomba product Ryan Merriman has also been named in the Patriots squad and Monique Smith has earned a place in the state under-23 women's team.
