Toowoomba Mountaineers side tipped to sign new coach

BASKETBALL: A three-time NBL champion and two-time Olympian is expected to join the Mountaineers this week.

Toowoomba Mountaineers representative Peter Rookas said the organisation was closer than ever to signing Danny Morseu as their men's head coach.

Rookas said the club made no secret about its desire to sign the highly respected Morseu.

"We've been working hard for some time to present an attractive package to Danny,” Rookas said.

"We think he would make a big difference to this club.

"We are focused on improving all facets of our program - the men, women, QBL and SBL.

"But there is a lot for him to weigh-up outside of basketball. He has a partner and a young family to consider.

"There are still some things we have to work through but we are very hopeful.”

Rookas said Morseu was well respected in basketball circles.

"He's not just a great former player,” he said.

"He's also a great coach and mentor.”
