FORMER Toowoomba man Tony Nunan has been appointed the managing director of natural gas company QGC.

Mr Nunan, who attended high school at Downlands College, is a qualified solicitor and natural resource scientist, and worked in soil conservation before rising the ranks to lead the multi-national company.

He joined QGC when it was a Queensland company in 2008, before it was taken over by the BG Group. He worked in a number of senior roles in QGC's legal, land management and asset management teams.

He said he always liked a challenge and will face many, as the head of a company which at the end of 2014, had a total number of 9600 of employees and third-party contractors.

"I never sat there and plotted a career, opportunities came my way and I've been rewarded for getting into it and getting the job done," he said.

Mr Nunan is now based in Brisbane where he lives with his wife and four young children and is looking forward to leading QGC, "one of those businesses which has a fantastic story".

QGC is a leading natural gas explorer focused on establishing the world's first project to convert gas from coal seams into liquefied natural gas.
