Promo deal a platform for success

TOOWOOMBA'S Will Young is set to make a high-profile entry into the professional boxing ranks after signing up with the promotion company of Brendon Smith.

Smith recently ended his association with former world champion Michael Katsidis.

He has now turned his attention to full-time fight promotion and is putting together a stable of boxers who will be part of a gala Toowoomba fight card in February. Smith is excited about the prospects of managing the future of Young who is trained by Toowoomba's Craig Monagle.

"Will has signed a three-year contract and I'm excited about the chance to work with him and Craig," Smith said.

"Will is back in training after breaking his arm which ended his hopes of competing at the Australian Olympic trials.

"He has seen this as an opportune time to step up to the pro ranks and I think people will be excited by his style."
