Wanting a 1981 result

WITH the final of the inter-district competition being played this Sunday it is timely to have a look back nearly 30 years to one of Coffs Harbour’s representative teams that claimed the title.

At Brelsford Park on March 8, 1981, cricket supporters were treated to one of the finest individual efforts seen at representative level.

Coffs Harbour were playing host to the Clarence River Association and the home side compiled 7-192 off their 50 overs thanks largely to a well made 66 from Neil Matten.

Captain Rod Kratz knew the result could’ve gone either way but it was Ross Haworth who ensured Coffs Harbour would be victorious, thanks to an inspired spell of 18 overs that netted him the amazing figures of 8-45 to dismiss the Clarence River for 152.

Hopefully Coffs Harbour can inflict a similar fate on the Grafton boys this Sunday.
