Toms wins club championships title in a play-off
DRAINING a 15-foot uphill putt on the second play-off hole has seen Logan Toms claim the Coffs Harbour Golf Club club championship.
Toms was locked in a play-off with Tim Hyland as they battled it out in less than ideal conditions.
The pair were in battle all day with Aden Louez and the 72nd hole proved a nervous time for the trio.
With a hole to play, Hyland led by a stroke over Toms with Louez a further shot behind as they teed off to go up the 18th fairway.
Hyland opened the door for the others with a double-bogey but neither Toms nor Louez could take full advantage.
Louez himself recorded a double-bogey while Toms needed to get up and down from the back of the 18th green just to make a bogey and take the championship to a play-off.
Club captain Bryan Maxwell said Toms, a winner of many club titles at Woolgoolga as well as a North Coast Open, is a deserved winner.
"He is the best player in the district. I don't say that lightly, I mean that," Maxwell said.
"He's a freak from 100m in. He's unbelievable and he can putt."
In the lower grades, Paul Mealey held on to win the B-Grade title while teenager Ty Adams showed his potential finishing ahead of MNC Veterans co-ordinator John Plummer in C-Grade.
