Harley's surfing title dream shattered!

LOCAL longboarder Harley Ingleby had his dream of being crowned world champion shattered on a California beach last Sunday.

Going into the final Oxbow Tour event at San Onofre at the weekend, the Coffs Coast surfer was leader in the ASP rankings and almost certain of claiming a maiden title.

But the dream run came unstuck in the fourth round when Ingleby was narrowly beaten by Hawaiian big wave rider Ned Snow, 18.75 points to 14.55, and the misfortune was compounded when Snow was eliminated in the semis by eventual winner, Bonga Perkins.

It means Ingleby will finish third in 2008 behind Perkins, who last won the World Championship in 1996.

Splitting the pair was Frenchman, Antoine Delpero.

However, it's been an outstanding year for Emerald Beach's Ingleby, highlighted by his stunning victory in the opening event of the Oxbow series at Anglet, France.
