'Tis the season to see Miracle On 34th Street again

IT'S a classic film with a message which never grows old.

Miracle On 34th Street won three Academy Awards in 1947 and was remade in 1994.

Just in time for the festive season a restored version of the original will be shown at Jetty Memorial Theatre at two sessions this Thursday.

Presented by Screenwave for the film's 70th anniversary it stars movie great Natalie Wood in one of her earliest roles and Maureen O'Hara as her mother.

Better known as a Western actor including a starring role in the 1960's television series The Restless Gun, John Payne makes a rare screen appearance without a horse.

Edmund Gwenn won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.

Presented as an original black and white print. the movie delves into the perennially sticky debate of whether Father Christmas truly exists.

The star is the cultured gentleman with twinkling eyes, an ample belly and a snowy beard who goes by the name of Kris Kringle.

It's a crowd-pleaser for all lovers of cinema, big and small.

Miracle On 34th Street screens at 10.30am and 1.30pm on December 21.

All tickets are $10 and may be purchased through the Jetty Memorial Theatre by calling 6648 4930.
