Redundancy sparked budget innovation website

INNOVATION is often born from necessity - and for Jody Allen, the enormously popular Stay At Home Mum website and Facebook page were the almost accidental result of redundancy.

Stay At Home Mum started as a series of simple household cost-saving posts on Facebook as Allen was figuring out how to survive on $50 a week for groceries, and has now grown into a site with almost half a million followers keen to cut costs and live frugally.

Live Well on Less is Allen's second book, following in the footsteps of Once a Month Cooking last year.

WHO YOU GONNA CALL FOR TIPS ON SAVING MONEY? COSTBUSTERS!

While the first book focused on efficiencies in the kitchen, this one takes a look at the whole home and aims to save householders up to $200 a month with a range of practical tips and stories.

Allen starts with advice on how to firstly get organised, draw up a budget and analyse your spending, bulk buy where possible and then go through your house room by room to start making savings.

She also provides a great range of recipes, including food made from leftovers and household cleaning products that can save you money and be kinder to the environment at the same time.

The book promises to help you live lean, not mean, and Allen delivers.

The recipes are, on the whole, healthy and easy to make, the advice is practical, and her fresh voice and approach make for an enjoyable, user-friendly guide anyone can use.
