Bernborough a possibility as Tinto eyes summer features

TOOWOOMBA mare Tinto continues her climb towards some rich festive-season assignments at Doomben on Saturday.

The Group One Queensland Oaks winner has her second run from a five-month spell in the Listed Just Now Fillies and Mares Handicap (1350m).

Tinto's regular jockey Tim Bell is riding at this week's Villiers' meeting in Sydney and apprentice Bridget Grylls has retained the ride aboard the four-year-old in the non-claiming event.

Grylls partnered Tinto in her eye-catching return to racing at Doomben two weeks ago when she flashed home late along the inside rail for a close-up second behind Newcastle mare Brook Road.

Tinto is headed towards the $200,000 Magic Millions Stayers Cup (1800m) at the Gold Coast on January 10.

But trainer Rex Lipp is also tossing up on a possible home-track feature bid with Tinto in the Listed Bernborough Handicap (1625m) on December 31.

The $175,000 Bernborough features on Toowoomba Turf Club's lucrative Clifford Park New Year's Eve card.

"The Bernborough is a possibility for her," Lipp said yesterday.

"We haven't made any firm decision yet beyond Saturday, but it's a race we will be looking closely at."

Lipp said Tinto had several obstacles to overcome as she continued her racing return on Saturday.

"She's got a big impost with 59.5kg, but what do you do?" Lipp said.

"She' going to get big weights wherever you place her.

"She'll get back again and a lot will depend on Saturday's conditions, but she'll run a big race."

Tinto's Just Now opposition includes Toowoomba mare Tukiyo who'll be partnered by leading Sydney jockey Tommy Berry for trainer Lacey Morrison.
