IF IT isn't hard enough trying to hit one feature target during a racing campaign, try hitting two - almost 1000km apart.

It takes a special horse and a wily training feat.

It requires the sort of effort Toowoomba mare Tinto and trainer Rex Lipp went within an ace of pulling off over the festive season

Tinto was one of Queensland's stand-out summer performers for Lipp and her connections during a preparation which reaped her more than $700,000 in prize money.

The five-year-old who failed to reach her $10,000 sale reserve price enhanced her game reputation in December with a close second in the Group Two Villiers Stakes (1600m) at Randwick before returning home to score back-to-back wins at the Gold Coast Magic Millions carnival.

Tinto's performance to end her campaign on a successful note with a second successive victory in the Magic Millions Trophy (1800m) has earned Lipp The Chronicle-Clear Mountain Fairview January Trainer of the Month title.

Lipp captured the award in a successful month for Toowoomba trainers including Ben Currie's Sunshine Coast feature victory with promising two-year-old Love Spy.

Tinto is now established amongst Australia's leading bracket of mares as she looks to resume racing in two weeks time.

Lipp has earmarked her return to racing in the $175,000 Group Two Guy Walter Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on February 27.

"She did well in a short break after the Magic Millions," Lipp said.

"But with Easter falling early this year (March) we've had to get her going again with the autumn feature races starting at the end of the month.

"The plan is to resume in the Guy Walter and if she does well enough then go to the Coolmore Classic.

"She's also nominated for the Doncaster, Queen Elizabeth and Queen Of The Turf a little further on."
