Time to get a flu jab

FLU season is nearly here and now is the time to get immunised against nasty bugs.

North Coast Area Health Service have reminded people how important it is to get vaccinated, especially those at higher risk of complications influenza can cause, including pregnant women and people aged 65 and those working in high risk settings like Health Care Workers.

“Babies cannot be vaccinated against flu until they are six months old, so it is recommended that all members of a baby’s household be vaccinated against influenza.

Earlier this week, health staff at Coffs Harbour Health Campus were offering free swine flu vaccines to new mothers and visitors to the maternity ward.

The vaccine protects against three forms of influenza Pandemic flu (swine flu – a type of flu A) and two other forms of flu (flu A and a flu B).
