Time to get 'on yer bike' Sunshine Coast

BIKE Week starts next week and Sunshine Coast Council has a range of activities to get everybody involved.

If you ride a bike for fun, fitness, or time with friends and family - or if you want to start - then there's something for you in Sunshine Coast Bike Week which runs from October 10 to 18.

The Sunshine Coast Council program includes a range of free workshops, bike rides and Ride2Work Day events, all with bike shop vouchers available to win for people who attend.

Mayor Mark Jamieson said Sunshine Coast Bike Week aimed to get more people riding, more often.

"There are events for all experience levels including recreational pathway rides, family cycle skills workshops, night mountain bike rides, and even an electric bike test ride," Mayor Jamieson said.

"Riding a bike is a fun social activity, a great way to get outdoors with friends and family and enjoy what the beautiful Sunshine Coast has to offer.

"It's a low impact exercise, which makes it perfect for people of any fitness level and age, and if you haven't done it for a while it takes you back to being a kid.

"Cycling is also a healthy way to move from point A to point B, whether it be commuting to work or picking up a few things from the shops."

Ride2Work Day - on Wednesday, October 14 - is a feature of Sunshine Coast Bike Week, with Council organising guided rides and celebratory breakfast locations at Birtinya, Caloundra, Cotton Tree and Nambour.

Everyone who registers for Ride2Work Day will enter the draw for a $1000 bike shop voucher.
