Tigers secure Usher for top team

HAVING gained promotion into North Coast Football’s 1st Division, Westlawn Tigers have begun their preparations for the 2011 season by securing the services of Robert Usher to coach the club’s top team.

Former coach Terry Stuart will remain within the club structure but will take a low-key role due to work commitments.

However he will continue to assist Usher and John Nelson when available.

Usher brings to the Club vast experience in youth development having coached representative sides with Northern NSW and North Coast football over recent years.

Nelson said that the club will be looking to build on the good effort of last season’s emphatic 2nd Division win.

However he realises that there is a big difference between the two divisions.

Consistency will be the key to success.

“We want to establish a long-term involvement in the top division so that players from Grafton have the opportunity to play football at the highest level available,” Nelson said.

“In gaining the services of a coach with a strong background in youth development the club hopes to take advantage of the available talent in the lower ranks.”

The Tigers have already signed up to participate in the Solo Cup knockout competition and are currently negotiating with several other North Coast Football clubs for pre-season matches in 2011.
