Tigers coach promises playing flair

INCOMING Melbourne Tigers coach Trevor Gleeson promises plenty of playing flair for NBL fans this season.

In Coffs Harbour for a National Australia Bank pre-season clash with Gold Coast Blaze at Sportz Central on Friday night, the current NBL Coach of the Year is working on a new image for his first year with Tigers.

“While the team must have exceptional defensive capability, I can promise the fans will see a more assertive outfit,” he said.

“Perhaps we could best be described as an attacking defensive team.

“Those who come to this game will see lots of action with players spending plenty of time above the rim.”

Gleeson promises to spread the art of communication, something he picked up mixing with and sharing ideas among coaches from across all sporting codes.

“Success comes from knowing how to interact with each other and it’s how you interpret game strategies,” he revealed.

“Over the years I’ve spent time with coaching staff from Collingwood in the AFL and North Queensland Cowboys in the NRL.

“Along the way I’ve picked up useful bits and pieces and it’s my job to adapt it to our game and share this with the team, so that we can be the best in our business.”

Gleeson paid tribute to the local basketball association for giving the game such a high community profile.

“I saw their work with the Blitz a couple of years back and during a previous pre-season visit,” he added.

“When the game is well supported, the benefits will always shine through.”

Gold Coast Blaze will have two team members with plenty of local experience.

Glen Innes-raised Anthony Petrie was involved in many battles against the Coffs Harbour Suns in junior days while Jason Cadee was just a little tacker when he first visited with dad Robbie from West Sydney Razorbacks.

Jason is using this game to resurrect his career following a major car accident.
