Tiger has $24 flights, but these are even better

IT'S one of the world's hottest destinations of the moment, claiming global hot-list accolades and welcoming cutting-edge attractions.

It's just a five-hour flight from Sydney - and now you can get there for a ridiculously cheap $72.

Even better - there's no need to add on the $277 cost of paying for a passport - you won't be needing one at all.

Yes, the latest city to catch the world's attention is right here in Australia: It's Perth.

Budget airline Tigerair is putting each of its 23 domestic routes on sale between now and Friday, celebrating its 24 millionth passenger with fares from $24 a pop for Adelaide-Melbourne, Brisbane-Whitsundays and Sydney-Coffs Harbour flights (scroll down to check out the full list of sale fares).

But it's the flights from Sydney to Perth, priced at $72 one-way, that will be the real pick of the bunch when the sale launches at midday today - the cheapest deal we've spotted in recent times to cross Australia from coast to coast.

The red-hot fare comes as Perth enters serious tourism boom territory.

New flight routes are seeing the city emerge as Australia's new tourism gateway, with Scoot's new rock-bottom priced connections from Europe to Perth launching this month, Qantas' new direct flights from London to the WA capital launching next year, and Tigerair's new direct flights from Brisbane kicking off last week.

Meanwhile, the city has been busy sprucing itself up with sophisticated new attractions.

A new waterfront precinct, Elizabeth Quay, opened last year, has become a new focal point with attractions including a water playground, restaurants and river cruise hub.

There's also a $100 million foreshore redevelopment at Scarborough Beach, set to be unveiled early next year.

Head-turning hotels are springing up across the city - from the super-luxe Crown Towers opened last year to the latest funky new first-in-Australia hotel brands Aloft and Tribe.

With so much going on in the tourism space, it's no surprise Perth has caught the eye of international travel heavyweights.

Perth's favourite playground, Rottnest Island, earned a gong as one of Lonely Planet's spots-to-watch in 2017, with the island's hot new glamping experience Pinky's Eco Retreat and Beach Club set to open later this year.

Meanwhile, US travel mag Travel+Leisure listed Perth as one of its top 50 destinations to visit this year, declaring it a "dining hot spot" and citing City Beach restaurant Odyssea, Elizabeth Quay's The Reveley and Isle of Voyage, and Crown Towers cocktail bar The Waiting Room as examples of its exciting new venues.

Tigerair's bargain Perth flights are timed from February 6 to March 22, 2018, just in time to make the most of the last days of summer.

The first round of Tigerair sale fares is up for grabs for 24 hours from midday today, with more routes to go on sale at midday tomorrow and Friday.
