Tiffani the top apprentice

APPRENTICE jockey Tiffani Brooker started the day with a winning double on Friday at the Ipswich racecourse.

She only had the two rides for the day and managed a 100% strike rate for her visit.

The two winners for the Toowoomba based hoop were Good Grab and Willowbrook Wonder, both prepared by Deagon trainer Darren Bell.

Bell also picked up the training double in the first two races with his only two starters.

This winning double made the trips from Deagon and Toowoomba respectively worthwhile for the trainer and jockey.

The two winners for the jockey should guarantee the Ipswich Apprentice Jockey Premiership win as she moved to 14 season successes.

This has Brooker sitting four ahead of the nearest apprentice Jag Guthmann- Chester, with just one Ipswich meeting remaining tomorrow to complete the season of racing.

Despite having outridden her Provincial claim, Brooker continues to ride winners. She collected another on Saturday at Doomben early in the day, continuing to hold her career win strike rate at around 12%.

Byrne on target

A WINNING double for jockey Jim Byrne on Friday all but wrapped up another Ipswich Jockey Premiership title heading into tomorrow's final meeting of the season at Ipswich.

Byrne was successful aboard Ignite the Light and Favoured Grace for trainers Tony Gollan and Marcus Wilson respectively.

Gollan moved to 20 season wins at Ipswich as he is about to collect his third consecutive Ipswich Trainer's Premiership.

Wilson has had a terrific Ipswich season as well with a much smaller team. He moved to a clear second after collecting his 12th winner of the season with Favoured Grace.

Byrne goes into tomorrow's meeting with a lead of five over Robbie Fradd. He will formally register his eighth senior Ipswich Premiership. This is a remarkable record especially when added to his earlier apprentice titles at Ipswich.

There continues to be no doubt that Byrne is the master of riding at Ipswich, understanding the tight Bundamba track better than all others.

Further delays

THE report on the state of the Eagle Farm track and future reparations has been delayed a further week.

It is now expected to be received late this week by the Minister for Racing.

The analysis of the track has been undertaken by highly respected former Victorian Racing Club CEO Dale Monteith who was appointed by Racing Queensland to conduct the investigation.

The results of this analysis are of high importance for the Ipswich Turf Club as the racing program for the new year could potentially be affected further.

Already the Ipswich program has changed up until November with the addition of a number of Wednesday dates and the September 23 full Saturday Metropolitan Meeting of $575,000 prizemoney.

These additional Metropolitan meetings interrupt the hospitality planning at the Ipswich Turf Club.

However they bring a higher class of racing in turn increasing overall wagering turnover at Ipswich, not only at home but across the world.

Next meeting

Ipswich racing continues tomorrow - the final meeting of the 2017 season. This Wednesday date is the first of the altered program cards and is supported with $160,000 prize money for the midweek Metropolitan meeting. Following tomorrow's race day, there are four consecutive Fridays at Ipswich before another Wednesday date on August 30.
