Tidal wave of help offered

COFFS Coast locals are getting behind tsumani devastated Samoa with a group of locals flying out this week to lend a hand.

Freddie Suaesi, who lost family members in the disaster, will be joined by Christine and Paul Brittliff and Dr Jason Lo Tam in travelling to Lalomanu and Saleapaga.

“For the first day we're there we're going to see people in the villages to offer our services,” Freddie said.

In wake of the natural disasters Freddie called for help through his employer Planet Fitness to get some fundraising going for his home country and Coffs Harbour answered the call.

Many people have donated money, clothing and shoes.

Members at Planet Fitness Gym have donated more than $400 Freddie said.

“Coffs has absolutely been supportive,” Freddie added.

“You can just sense they're so interested in trying to help.”

Dr Lo Tam will be taking medical supplies with him to distribute amongst villagers and will spend some time in hospitals seeing what is needed.

The group will be visiting many people, including a Bishop, to build relationships to direct their fundraising efforts.

Freddie said he will be spending some time helping to rebuild homes.

“We've been shopping around for nails and hammers,” he said.

If you would like to donate to the cause contact Planet Fitness on 6651 1172 or email Christine Brittliff at captainchrissie@yahoo.com or drop goods off at Woolgoolga's Bonetto's Café.
