Three-peat for Nathan
LOCAL tennis gun Nathan Cooke, 17, has won his third consecutive Queensland Junior Development State Titles after he thrashed Yeppoon's Kyle Johnstone 6-0 6-1 in Rockhampton.
It was sweet revenge after the Yeppoon teenager defeated him a week earlier at the Queensland Regional final.
Nathan did not drop a set throughout the tournament with wins against Thomas Braithwaite, Jarrod Major, Baxter Bloore and Joshua Irwin on his way to the decider and says he has ticked the boxes.
"It's amazing and I'm stoked and all year that's what I have been training for and to actually make it happen feels great," he said.
"The first year was the hardest and was youngest in the field and never even thought I'd have a chance of winning. "The second year was a little bit easier because I knew what I was up against."
Nathan added that the pressure built when a third title was up for grabs.
So how did Nathan reverse the result from just a week earlier?
"I was really strong mentally during the game and leading up to the game and I knew what I had to do to get the three in a row," Nathan said.
Nathan was part of the Central Queensland team which also won its third successive Ken Hick/Murray Whitbread Trophy by collecting 61 points across both days
Central Queensland also took home the XStrata Cup. The Central Queensland team was Luka Bosnjak, Kody Baker, Isabella Cooper, Vada Thaggard, Lachlan Vickery, Thomas Llewellyn, Olivia Massingham, Lacey Robertson, Alec Braund, Owen Ambrey, Tamie Chew, Rahni Parle, Kyle Johnstone, Nathan Cooke, Ameliija Swaffer-Selff and Sophie Bygrave.
