FANS of The Wire, this is your new binge-watch series.
The Night Of delves into the intricate story of a fictitious murder case in New York City.
The eight part series follows the police investigation and legal proceedings, all the while examining the criminal justice system and the purgatory of Rikers Island, where the accused awaits his trial.
Filmed in and around Manhattan, The Night Of is based on the BBC's Criminal Justice, created by Peter Moffat.
In episode one, a straight-laced Paskistani-American student is off to a must-attend party on a Friday night.
His only available transportation being his father's taxi cab, he sets off into Manhattan.
But his party-going plans are quickly forgotten when a mysterious young woman jumps aboard in need of a ride.
Charmed by her intense intrigue and good looks, the young man gets swept up by her pressures.
After a mind-altering night of drugs and passion, the woman is dead, and the young man finds himself in the cross hairs of a gruesome murder investigation, panicked and shaken, but possibly with a trace of doubt as to his own innocence.
