Three men stabbed at hotel

THREE men were stabbed in a bizarre incident at the Coffs Harbour Hotel last night.

Front bar patrons at the hotel said they knew nothing about the attack until the men burst out of the poker machine room into the bar yelling and screaming, "We’ve been stabbed!"

They said the man who stabbed his fellow patrons had disappeared.

Another woman said she was not present at the incident but heard a man "just went off" in the popular and crowded hotel’s poker machine lounge.

Detective Inspector Chris Clarke of Coffs Clarence Police Command said police were investigating the incident, which took place in the hotel about 6.10pm.

The three men were treated at the scene by ambulance paramedics. One young man, later helped on to a stretcher by paramedics, had large bloodstains on his t-shirt over his stomach and another younger victim had smaller bloodstains in a similar area on his grey t-shirt.

All three were later taken to Coffs Harbour Base Hospital.

Detective Inspector Clarke said two people were able to walk, while the third was transferred to the hospital by ambulance.

"At this stage the exact nature and extent of their injuries are unknown," he said.

"Police are looking at CCTV footage in an effort to identify the suspect and inquiries are continuing."

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to ring Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or contact Coffs Harbour police on 6652 0299.
