Third qualifies Courtney for 2011

BY finishing third in Sunday’s final round of the 2010 Kellogg’s Nutri Grain Ironman series, Sawtell’s Courtney Hancock has done enough to automatically qualify for next year’s event.

The 21-year-old who now represents the powerful Northcliff Club was only narrowly behind winner Elizabeth Pluimers and second-placed Kristyl Smith at North Cronulla and finished one place ahead of series winner Alicia Marriott.

Not all the news from the gruelling event was golden for the Hancock family as little sister Bonnie was eliminated in the first of the three races when the women’s field was cut from 20 starters to 15 for the second race.

Bonnie finished 16th and recorded an overall series position of 13th which means she will have to qualify for the 2011 series.
