Thieves foiled in getaway

THIEVES that broke into the Urunga BP Service Station on Monday got more than they bargained for after people staying at the premises woke and called the police.

Between 11.30 and 11.40pm, a number of people asleep in the rear of the service station were woken by the sound of smashing glass.

Running to the front of the premises, witnesses say they saw a white Mitsubishi Magna parked in waiting while three people, with shirts over their heads, ran from the premises carrying cigarettes and other property.

They jumped in the car, which took off south on the highway. The car was stopped by police from Macksville.
