These pies make the cut

IT'S the simplest of dishes but when you tuck into a good one, the old fashioned Australian meat pie can be an eating delight.

When the Advocate's Facebook likers were asked on the weekend where's the best place on the Coffs Coast to grab a great pie, the responses came in thick and fast.

According to the answers, the best places to get a pie in Coffs Harbour are right in the middle of town.

Cutty's Cakes, Bananacoast Hot bake and K'pane Artisan Bakery are all within a stone's throw of each other but according to the votes, they're the best three places to grab a pie.

See below for the top 10 places to get a pie as voted by the Advocate's Facebook friends.

10. Breadcrumz Bakery - Sawtell
Across the road from the Sawtell Hotel bottle shop prides itself not only its cakes and pies but also its gluten free breads & quiches made to order.

9. Dorrigo Bakery
No list of pies on the Coffs Coast would be complete without mentioning the traditional wood fired ovens on Hickory St that have been creating great pies for decades.

8. Swiss Patisserie - Bellingen
The Swiss Patisserie is a Bellingen landmark. First among a number cafes to locate in Church St, eating outside on a beautiful Bellingen day is a great way to enjoy a pie.

7. Coramba Bakery
People have been known to jump in the car and drive from miles away to grab one of the pies baked the old fashioned way at Coramba Bakery.

6. Bushman's Bakery
There are a few Bushman's Bakery franchises on the Coffs Coast to choose from to get one of their pies although the Advocate's Facebook likers suggested Northside and Moonee as the pick of the crop.

5. Ridgey Didge Pies
If you're a fan of Ridgey Didge Pies and their claim of having the pie with the superior interior, you're spoilt for choice in Coffs Harbour with four different shops to choose from - Park Beach Plaza, Coffs Central, Bailey Centre and the Coffs Harbour South service centre.

4. Urunga Country Oven Bakery
Pies so good that service stations order them in to sell. If you live north of Urunga, a drive to the BP at the service centre south of town will give you a taste of how good the pies from Urunga are.

3. K'pane Artisan Bakery - Coffs Central
Gourmet flavoured pies such as Penang pork or beef and red wine has seen K'pane become a Coffs Harbour favourite in only a short space of time.

2. Bananacoast Hot Bake - Coffs Harbour CBD

1. Cutty's Cakes - Coffs Harbour CBD
