WITH autumn officially here, there is one fashion purchase we can all justify - and that's new boots. A new pair of boots will update your look and winter wardrobe better than any other fashion item.
So what do boots look like heading into autumn and winter 2016? The cliche anything goes springs to mind, but there are some discernable trends.
First up - and I love this one; is chunky, block heels.
We're talking a boot (and shoes) that give you a height advantage, but with the added bonus of practicality. No more teetering on a dangerously fine, high heel with the fabulous block heel.
Almost all of the major designers have taken to creating boots and shoes with this solid heel style. The European catwalks were abounding in block heels; from Anna Sui boots, to Missoni, Max Mara, Dolce & Gabbana, Marc Jacobs, Valentino and Pucci all adding weight to a solid heel trend.
The other on-trend look is shoes and boots worn with socks.
This is one of the biggest 2016 trends on the runways, as is the ankle strapped mary-jane shoes. Both looks are fun and can really add interest to an outfit.
The three main materials for boots (and shoes) for 2016 are leather, suede and luxurious velvet. Gorgeous embellished velvet boots and shoes scream glamour and are ideal for smart winter evenings.
But do you choose ankle boots, mid-calf or knee length boots?
The answer is boots in all lengths are in style, which is rather intriguing. Compared to previous seasons of ankle-only boots, this year the focus for boots is on nearly everything above the ankles.
