The world loves Issy’s kiss with German tennis ace
A SUNSHINE Coast schoolgirl has caught the attention of one of tennis' biggest names after tripping over on the court during his last match.
Sixteen-year-old Issy Tomkins became the envy of females around the world, earning a kiss on the cheek from world No.5 Alexander Zverev during his Davis Cup win on Friday at Brisbane's Pat Rafter Arena.
The German laid one on Issy as players changed ends during his clash with Australian Alex de Minaur in the afternoon.
The Noosa teenager slipped as she ran out to retrieve a ball during the first set, causing the 20-year-old to approach her afterwards.
Issy said the kiss was "nice", especially since she was already a fan.
"He was one of my favourite tennis players and he has been for a while so I was pretty stoked," she said.
"The players actually support us and are thankful, and that's really nice for everyone to see."
She said it was funny seeing her face splashed across the front page of German newspapers, but admitted it was nice to be a part of it.
Zverev will be back on court in Brisbane today for his return singles match, and Issy will once again be on the sidelines, hoping to stay on her feet this time.
It's a tough call on who she wants to win.
"I'm mixed because I'm supposed to go for Australia but I kind of want him to win as well," she said.
