Editorial - Wednesday, August 26:The world comes to the Coast

THE rally world this week shifted its focus from Europe to the Coffs Coast, meaning Rally Australia's presence, hype and publicity will ramp up over the next three weeks.

Hosting a round of the World Rally Championship for the fourth time from September 10-13, the Coffs Coast by now has become a household name for the 28 million rally faithful, who are expected to tune into the action.

As the exposure of the rally has grown so too has the tourism reach that has come with the event. Many worldwide travellers know Sydney and Brisbane and through the rally they now know of Coffs Harbour.

The latest Rally Australia promotion encapsulates iconic imagery with the obvious footage of multi-million dollar manufacturers testing their vehicles on the region's forestry roads.

The video posted online says 264 television stations in 140 countries will showcase Coffs Harbour, "bringing the world to its beautiful beaches, famous landmarks, breathtaking coastline and unique hinterland".

What a strong endorsement for overseas travellers to add the Coffs Coast to their Australian travel routes.

In the lead-up to the rally it's now up to the community to add to the event's success.
