The soulful sounds of an Oscar winner

THE SWIFF Satellite Cinema program Wild At Heart begins today at the Jetty Memorial Theatre, with six cutting-edge world festival films screening across the weekend.

Included in the line-up is the very modern, emotional and relevant 2016 Oscar-winner for Best Documentary, Amy.

Amy Winehouse was among the great lost voices not just of a generation, but of an entire musical genre.

Her haunting jazz and soul sounds set her place along greats like Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday.

While her soulful music made her a star, her chaotic personal life stole the headlines.

Amy is a powerfully honest look at the twisted relationship between art and celebrity - and the lethal spiral of addiction.

The filmmakers were granted interviews with family members, close friends and colleagues, as well as access to compelling, never-before-seen archival footage.

Amy screens at 1.30pm tomorrow at the Jetty Theatre.

Other titles screening today and tomorrow include the 140 minute one-take action heist, Victoria, the darkly comic Queen of Earth, outrageous Spanish comedy/thriller Wild Tales, Cannes winning comedy/drama, The Lobster, and the regional premiere of eco-doco Racing Extinction.
