TONY Phillips doesn't have anything against replica Toranas, he just didn't want one.

It meant a lot of shopping around to finally find an original LH SLR 5000.

Phillips stumbled upon one 18 months ago in Blackwater and quickly jumped at the chance to get his hands on it.

"I am an old-school car enthusiast but particularly the Toranas," he said.

"I had Toranas when I was young."

Phillips and his wife Christine have not done too much to the Torana, and the only thing left to do is to get a metal respray.

But the final improvement can wait as the car does not get used every day.

"We drive it once a week and the occasional wedding and prom," he said.

"Only I drive it. Christine just enjoys the ride."

The pair will enjoy the ride for a long time, with no plan of selling the Torana.
